WATERPLANET is the work of musician/artists Millie Landrum and Jim Hesser. They make an artful noise in the realm of punk and psychedelia that proudly defies classification. When you walk into a WATERPLANET show, you might be surprised (as others have been before) to see only two people onstage. The set-up is deceptively simple: Millie, Jim, acoustic guitars, a few pedals, an old snare drum, cymbals, congas, hand percussion, and the occasional visiting instrument. Yet, the sound is so full that fans have approached and asked if they use tape loops (no).

Harmonies are important. Their blend of voices and instruments seems to set off sympathetic sounds in the environment. Instruments are exchanged constantly, so the sound, while always WATERPLANET, is never static. Millie and Jim are poetic and imagistic songwriters and are frequently asked for copies of their lyrics.

Shelly Yakus, who has engineered both John Lennon and U2, said that WATERPLANET’s songs were ahead of their time and that they conjured up animated movies in his mind. WATERPLANET has been compared to artists as diverse and influential as the Velvet Underground, The Doors, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Belly, The Beatles, REM, Hole, the B-52’s, Pink Floyd, Beat Happening…

WATERPLANET is celebrating the release of Here We Go! (2006). Millie and Jim are hard at work promoting the cd, and writing and recording new songs.
